Mauritius Top Sites - Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is Mauritius Top Sites and how does it work? Mauritius Top Sites is a CGI (Common Gateway Interface) script that was developed to maintain a Top Sites list(s) sorted either by the number of votes, average rating or the total score. One of the advantages of the script is that it generates the Top List in HTML format, rather than generating it "on-the-fly", thus, taking the server resource load to a minimum. Back to top 2. What is the "Score"?
The Score combines both the number of votes and the average rating to measure the site popularity. It is derived using the following formula: SCORE = (NUMBER OF VOTES) X (AVERAGE RATING). Back to top 3. How can I add my website
to the Mauritiustopsites List?
Click the "Sign Up" link located at the top of the list and follow the instructions to register your website. After the signup is complete your site will be assigned a unique ID and Password for member area access. Back to top 4. Where can I get the voting
HTML code that I can put on my site?
After you sign up, log in to member area using the "Log In" link located at the top of the list. If you logged in successfully, Member Control Panel will be displayed. Click the "HTML GENERATOR" tab to generate the voting HTML code that you can put on your website to allow your visitors to vote for it. Back to top 5. When I vote for a website,
why my vote is not shown right away?
The Mauritius Top Sites List is not generated dynamically, but it is updated every period of time that is set by the script administrator. You will be able to see your vote with the next update. The time of last update is shown at the top of the list. Back to top 6. Why are all the votes reset
to 0 after a certain period of time?
The list can be reset every period of time, determined by the script administrator. This, sometimes, allows the newer sites to catch up with the "veteran" list members and draws a more fair picture of websites ratings. Back to top 7. Why when I enter HTML tags
in the signup form, they do not appear as HTML?
The script automatically filters any HTML tags that are inserted in the signup and update forms. This is done for security reasons to make sure that no one will mess up the Mauritius Top Sites List by inserting malicious HTML or JavaScript code. Back to top 8. My website information
has changed, how can update my information on the Mauritius Top Sites List?
Use the "Log In" link at the top of the list to log in to member area. If you logged in successfully, Member Control Panel is displayed and your site profile is shown. Enter the new information in the text boxes and click the "Update Profile" button to update your website information. The updated information will be shown on the Mauritius Top Sites List with the next update. Back to top 9. Why is my site not included
in the Top List right after I signed up?
The Mauritius Top Sites List is not generated dynamically, but it is updated every period of time that is set by the script administrator. You will be able to see your website on the list with the next update. The time of last update is shown at the top of the list. Also, the script administrator may select not to show the websites that have 0 votes and 0.00 rating on the Mauritius Top Sites List. If that is the case, you will need at least 1 vote for your website to appear on the Mauritius Top Sites List. Back to top 10. Why do I get "Member
not found in the database" error message when I am trying to log in?
It could mean one of the following: (i) You entered incorrect website ID; or (ii) Your account was deleted by the script administrator. Back to top 11. Why my site does not
appear on the top list even though I signed up and I have more than 0 votes?
The script administrator may select not to show the "Inactive Sites" on the Mauritius Top Sites List. The site is considered to be "Inactive" if it does not receive any votes for a certain period of time, set by the script administrator. Back to top
